Let’s Talk about Getter’s – ‘Visceral’ // Discord Discourse 001

“Visceral” is one of the finest pieces of electronic music made in the past few years. Getter went a full 180 in his style when he came up with his debut album and even ramped up his live sets. This apparently didn’t vibe with some of his fans and poor Getter had to face some backlash

Over at discord, a friend and I had a conversation about this very topic (discord server link at the bottom ⬇ ), ranging all the way from the sound design, visuals and the public drama surrounding “Visceral”. Below is a short summary of our chat –

Our Favourite Tracks

Purgatory : An atmospheric start to the whole album; the energetic transition sets the mood

Colorblind (Interlude): Listening to this track gave us literal chills

All is lost: Massive energy! Words can’t begin to describe it, but an emoji can – 🔥(Mrinal- “It’s almost like it could have an electric guitar solo and the energy will be off the roof! “)

The Visuals

If any of you haven’t checked out the video Getter put out to promote his live show, I recommend you watch it right now! It is highly cryptic and mind-bending.

As a visual artist, this is the kind of stuff that teaches you to be humble. 😛

Visceral’s psyche visuals and atmospheric sounds transport you to a dreamland (one with moshpits). Getter is definitely in the next zone of his creativity.

There has been a recent trend in the massive influx of trippy and psychedelic visuals into the electronic music scene. Not saying that it’s something new, but the sheer number of these visuals these days is mind-blowing!

Getter’s Transition

The past year has seen a lot of changes in the music industry, especially electronic. New talented producers with unique sounds are popping up and getting platforms to showcase themselves. Good producers are striving for greatness. 2019 is one of the best times to be alive for an electronic music fan (after 2012?)

Look at Getter, two years back watching him live, nobody would’ve thought that he could deliver something as aesthetic as Visceral. (Ironically he is the guy who popularised moshpits😛)

In a tweet Getter called his old music “sell-out” – and that only now he feels he’s making music for himself. Which looks pretty apparent because all his new stuff is non-generic and filled with emotions.

Visceral has to be his finest work so far, but I love his old stuff as well! Especially his visuals. They were very polished and insanely trippy!

Conclusion

Even though some people may argue that old Getter was better (you can’t really blame them, his old style was what brought them onboard) – I personally feel that he is headed onto a beautiful journey and this is just the beginning. Given enough space to experiment, Getter can bloom into one of the finest electronic musician of our times 💓
