Have you ever run into any of these situations?

>You have a favourite album art that you want to download & use as wallpaper

>You want to print out an artwork and use it as a poster

>You’re remixing a track & need the original album art in the highest possible resolution

If your answer is yes, I’m sure you have already figured out by now that Google Images doesn’t have most artworks (or at least not in high resolution).

Here’s what I do instead

Ben Dodson is a UK based freelance Apple developer with numerous projects to his name. One such project is called “iTunes Artwork Finder“.

This project started out as a simple tool for using the iTunes Search API to download 600x600px artwork for TV shows. However, it became a lot more popular than I expected and requests were made to add movie and iBook artwork. I’ve added these in addition to incorporating album artwork and app icons from the App Store.

The tool is pretty straightforward to use, however, remember that the tool scours iTunes for these artworks and any Album not available on iTunes might not give any results.

Step 1: Follow this link to open the iTunes Artwork Finder home page

Step 2: In the left drop-down menu that says “TV shows”, scroll & select “Album”

Step 3: Type the name of the Album/artist or even simply keywords in the search box

Step 4: If the artwork you want is specific to any region, select the country from the next drop-down menu. Otherwise, keep it as it is (United States by default) and click “Get the artwork”

Step 5: A list of search results will come up, each with 2 options:

Standard Resolution: usually 600x600px

High Resolution: usually 3000x3000px

Go to the album art you want and click on High Resolution

And there you have it! A 3000x3000px version of your favorite album art. To put it in perspective, a 1080p youtube video has a resolution of 1920x1080px. That means you can use this artwork without any fear of losing quality.

What next?

Now that you have downloaded the album art, you can set it as your wallpaper, or edit for your remix artwork. If you plan on doing the latter, I recommend Canva as your tool of choice. With it, you can easily make your remix artwork with one of the thousands of album art templates. Consider checking them out!
