“Dissolve” Album Art Review with Essenger // PR002

According to Essenger , “Dissolve” is a track about bittersweet nostalgia. How we wish to go back in time, to how things were before- even if they’re better now.

Essenger (Jeff Simpson) released his dreamy single “Dissolve” early in 2019 which has only been gaining popularity since then. A quick look at the artwork gives you a warm, nostalgic vibe (Spot on!)

The depiction of the empty street is probably symbolic of Essenger’s memories of the past, as in the lyrics he yearns “To wander the streets”. The bright sky and the tangerine tint to the whole scene gives it a very dream-like look. Top it off with the subtle pixel sorting and you have a really well thought out album art, that has a meaning behind it too.

Interview with Essenger

Me: Thanks a lot for joining me for this review, Jeff! In the artwork, we can see a fox as the subject of the whole scene. What’s the story behind that?

Jeff: Well originally I was going to have a person in the art, but decided an animal could be a better representation of innocence/youth and the fox went well with the color scheme.

Me: That makes sense. Would you like me to give a shout-out to the artist?

Jeff: Ofcourse, Josh Hurst has been doing all my designs for the past 5 years! Do check out his band Young Medicine too, they’re really good.

Me: 5 years is a long time, that’s amazing! My next question is for the aspiring producers out there. A lot of such artists that are just starting out lack the funding and the network to get professional visuals, and that restricts them even if they have a visual identity in mind. What would you suggest such artists?

Jeff: Well first I would say that consistency is very important, so stick to what you commit. You can learn some design basics yourself, but if your skills aren’t at par with your vision (which is okay, you’re a producer first and not a visual artist) I’d highly recommend to save up for a professional.

Me: Thank you for giving credit to that statement. Many artists seem to neglect the importance of consistency.

Jeff: Yes a lot of people seem to go all over the place. The main reason I think the Essenger project is working out is because I have a consistent brand.

Me: The Essenger branding is consistent, indeed. Thanks a lot for all your time man!

Jeff: No problem, glad I could help!

PS: Essenger just released his new single “Afterburner”. Make sure to go check it out!
